In a landmark moment for international education, Bedford School, one of the UK’s most respected boarding and day schools, has announced the opening of its first overseas campus. Set to open in April 2026, Bedford School Mohali will be located on the outskirts of Chandigarh, in the thriving city of Mohali, Punjab.
This will be the first British international girls’ school in India, and the first British school brand to establish itself in North India.
A Bold Vision for Girls’ Education
Bedford School Mohali will welcome girls aged 3 to 18, offering both the Indian national curriculum and the British curriculum. The school will provide both day and boarding options, with a strong emphasis on academic excellence, creativity, leadership and community values.
James Hodgson, Head Master of Bedford School, expressed his enthusiasm:

“We are incredibly excited to bring the Bedford School ethos and values to Mohali. Bedford School Mohali will be a beacon of excellence, nurturing young women to become leaders and innovators in their communities and beyond.”
A World-Class Campus
Spanning 14 acres, the new school has been purpose-built to foster a rich academic and co-curricular experience. Facilities will include:
Spacious, modern classrooms with the latest educational technology
A 1,000-seat auditorium for performances and whole-school gatherings
High-quality boarding houses
Extensive sports facilities, including playing fields, courts and a multi-sport complex
Dedicated science and technology laboratories
Art and music studios to inspire creativity
A well-resourced library to promote reading and research
A Partnership with Purpose
The school is being launched in partnership with the Doon International Education Society, a not-for-profit educational group with a strong track record in India. Founded by Mr D. S. Mann in 1993, the Society operates several leading schools across Dehra Dun, Mohali and Chandigarh.
Doon International School, Dehra Dun, is frequently ranked as the top CBSE co-educational day and boarding school in Uttarakhand (source: Education World).
The collaboration was facilitated by ISC Research, renowned for connecting top educational institutions around the world.

Why Mohali?
Mohali was chosen for its unique position next to Chandigarh, India’s first planned city, designed by iconic architect Le Corbusier. Known for its modernist design, clean layout and abundance of green spaces, Chandigarh is one of the most liveable cities in India.
Mohali itself is emerging as a dynamic IT and industrial hub, with growing infrastructure, educational institutions and global business presence. Together, the twin cities are poised for rapid development, driven by smart city initiatives and long-term investment in urban planning.
A Historic Beginning
To celebrate this new venture, a formal signing ceremony will be held at Bedford School in the UK. Officials and distinguished guests from both India and the United Kingdom are expected to attend, marking the beginning of this exciting new chapter in international education.
